Final Traverse
MFA Degree Show 2024
Final Traverse, mixed media installation, 2024.
Final Traverse was an installation which included sculpture, audio and visual works as a mean of expanded cinema. Projections of grainy and glitchy video work, a collaborative audio exploration with Composer, Anselm McDonnell, photographic wheat pasted imagery, found objects and wooden sculptural pieces filled the space in which the work was displayed.
My practice delves into the world of indoor bouldering/climbing, reflecting the climbs and challenges through the aforementioned. as well as bringing aspects of the climbing gym into the space as readymade and handmade objects.
I merge soundscapes and video to offer a sensorial experience, exploring concepts regarding the body, movement of the body and how it is viewed in various aspects of day-to-day life. I aim to push the boundaries of whether climbing can be considered art or whether it can be used as a tool to create, it is a journey of experimentation and error, with carefully curated soundscapes, incorporating elements like my heart rate and musical compositions based upon climbs and specific movements within those as well as conversing with the sort of music that there would be in the club scene.
The audio work intertwines with intricately edited video installations to provide the viewers with a unique and engaging art piece, through combining these elements I hope to offer a fresh perspective on climbing, challenging traditional notions of art.
